Details: 8 p.m.; $50-$100; 925-373-6800, lvpac.org. 10 “Love Is a Dirty Word”: In this acclaimed 80-minute solo show, actor Giovanni Adams recounts a life in which the various elements — a religious household, a constantly shifting family structure, the realization that he is gay — often seemed at odds with each other. But his is a story of willful adaptation, not pity. Adams brings “Love” to San Francisco’s Z Space performance complex for a two-week run beginning Friday.

Linda Ronstadt: She’s been overlooked for years, but it seems like the time is right to recognize Ronstadt for her longevity, influence and smash records from the ’70s and early ’80s. Plus, it’s high time that the Hall add more women to its ranks. Chic: The disco-dance band is bound to get into the Hall one of these years — for its incredible collection of hit singles in the ’70s as well as for Nile Rodgers’ genius production work. Hopefully, voters will want to add some disco to an inductee mix that is already likely strong with rock and rap.

“Mom wasn’t having it,” Kelela says of her mother’s decision to move her daughter to Gaithersburg, Md. “So she literally went as far as the Red Line (commuter train) would take her. The whiter you go, the better the school.”. At home, Kelela forged her own fantasy world, mimicking what she learned from VHS copies of “The Sound of Music” and a compilation of “Rhythm Nation”-era Janet Jackson videos. She’d put on impromptu plays with her cousin. She’d teach her aunts and uncles how to do the running man. She’d leap onto tables and belt Whitney Houston ballads, her eyes fixed on an imaginary stadium filled with adoring fans.
